Bull Run Distilling Company, a prominent whiskey focused distillery located in Northwest Portland is joining forces with bars and restaurants to spread knowledge about Oregon whiskey, through an event series called Oregon Whiskey Hour. The happy hour-style program was created to raise awareness of Oregon whiskey as its own category.
Sample Bull Run’s whiskey portfolio, including the recently released Oregon Single Malt Whiskey aged for 4+ years. Lee Medoff (owner/distiller), Stephany and Jennifer will be available to discuss Oregon whiskey and answer any questions you may have. Bartenders will create special cocktails for purchase featuring Bull Run’s whiskey. The recipes will be available on the Oregon Whiskey Hour website so that you can even make at home. The remaining happy hours will take place at La Moule, The Green Room, and Irving Street Kitchen.
Here is The Ploughman made by Sue Ericson for the March 15th Oregon Whiskey Hour at The Fireside.
2 oz Bull Run Single Malt
1/8 oz Red Ale syrup (1:1 using Buoy Red Ale)*
1/4 oz Amaro Nonino
2 dashes Boker’s Bitters
Stir, serve over large cube, lemon zest
*the malt from the beer works super well with the malty flavors of the whiskey!
Why: Oregon whiskey has a specific flavor profile based on our region—the water, climate, and malt all contribute to flavor. Often, we want to compare whiskey in Oregon to whiskey made in Kentucky or other regions. Oregon Whiskey Hour is a one-of-kind way to expand your definition of whiskey to include unique whiskey made in our state.
When/Where: Wednesday, March 22, 2017 from 5-6PM at La Moule (2500 SE Clinton Street); Friday, March 31, 2017 from 5-8PM at The Green Room (1124 SW Alder Street); Thursday, April 6, 2017 from 5-8PM at Irving Street Kitchen (701 NW 13th Ave).
How: Just show up, no reservation or RSVP required. The happy hours are free to attend and cocktails can be purchased (around $10+).
