What: A week-long celebration of aquavit, a classic Scandinavian spirit made primarily in Europe but here in Portland too.
When: December 4 -10, 2016
Why: If you’re not yet familiar with all that aquavit has to offer, now is the time to try this Scandinavian favorite at participating bars and restaurants. Aquavit Week was founded in 2012 by Portland bartender and writer, Jacob Grier. Different events throughout the week (and cocktails at participating establishments) showcase the spirits to not only Portlanders but people all of the United States. Bars outside of Portland are participating by creating cocktails and/or offering flights.
Aquavit Week Opening Party (Dec. 4th, 6-8 PM) – Broder Nord will host the opening party for Aquavit Week with Portland’s largest selection of the Nordic spirit. Ten different spirits, cocktails, light Scandinavian fare, and a true Swedish toast is available for $20 per person. Tickers are available at the door. View Facebook Event.
Snaps & Taps (Dec. 4-10th, any time) – Five breweries have paired up with five Portland bars to offer unique aquavit pairings. This year there’s also a aquavit-inspired cider courtesy of Revered Nat’s. Beer selections include beer spiced with aquavit botanicals, beer aged in aquavit barrels (like Commons Brewery “Khthonios” sour stout aged in aquavit barrels) and beers that pair well with aquavit. Read more about the beers.
Nordic Flight Night (Dec. 5, 3 PM – 2 AM) – Try aquavits from all over the world, including Portland during Bit House Saloon’s Monday Night Flights. View Facebook Event.
Aquavit Week Post-Party (Dec. 11, 9 PM – 12 AM) – Meet up for cocktails and cheers all around with at Expatriate to conclude the week.
